Collaborations with two nationally-renowned companies, four world premieres, and our 18th production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever! SteppingStone Theatre's 22nd season promises to be filled with magic and wonder for all ages!

There's Magic in the transformation of the youth who come to us through open auditions with all levels of experience to become the casts of accomplished professional young actors you see on our beautiful stage.

There's Magic in the plays that we commission and create with our extraordinarily talented playwright partners. The season opens in October with a Slumdog Millionaire-style Bollywood musical by acclaimed local playwright Aditi Brennan Kapil. There's Magic in the partnerships we're creating with nationally-recognized artists and organizations. In March we'll have a very exciting collaboration with Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater on My Grandmother's Tsotchkes. And in May, we've got our fourth world premiere of the season, commissioned in partnership with New York City's TADA! Youth Theater. We're even sending our cast of The Magic Pot to New York to see TADA's production!

My Grandmother's Tsotchkes:
Tales of a Gambling Grandma

March 12–28, 2010

by Stuart Pimsler, music by Gary Rue

"Each Penny Is Its Own Treasure"

In this warm and intimate story, a young girl learns all about her Russian Jewish grandmother through the trinkets Grandma had collected throughout her life. Each one of those tsotchkes—a bag of pennies, a box of chess pieces, an old black shoe, and a glass ring—magically transport the girl into adventurous stories of her grandma’s flight from Russia to America.

These stories of traditions that sustain families from generation to generation are told primarily through energetic dance and movement.

This world premiere show is produced in collaboration with the nationally-recognized, Twin Cities’ based Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater.

Izzy Rousmeniere, seen in the photo above bottom right, is blogging about her experiences working on this play for the Pioneer Press. Read her blog…
